Xenophobia
is a strong and unreasonable dislike or fear of people from other
countries.South Africa is a country with a history in giving people nasty
labels, if you can look for a culture you will find that there are names that
they are called with for example the Zulu tribe they call them
"Izinzule". During apartheid the common word that was used is
"kaffer" which is a terrible word that was used to refer to black
people. The name giving thing started a long time ago in South Africa and its a
pity and sad that we don't see anything wrong with it.

There is another word which is more derogatory and this word is somehow
tolerated which is "kwerekwere" this word is used in South Africa to
refer to immigrants. South Africans tend to be discriminating when it comes to
foreigners they forget that we are all foreigners somewhere. This kind of
behavior and brutality took place in the townships mostly where the immigrants
opened their shops. Immigrants are said are said to be taking South Africans
Jobs which is not true so many foreigners were attacked and killed.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

- Advantage of discussing
xenophobia on the social network is that social media is a good tool of
sharing information and there are so many people who have access to
social media , if this hashtag is discussed many people get to know about
it they get to have a say. There were campaigns that were formed in regard
to Xenophobic attacks and they gave people the platform to take part to
send the message out there and people to notice how wrong it is to kill
people just because of their nationality.
- Through social media there
were people who were willing to donate and people who were sympathizing
with those who lost everything in this event , who their houses were burnt
down and those who lost their lives.
- During the Xenophobic storm
there are people who take insensitive pictures and videos which shows
violence and post them online and they being seen by South Africans
and the rest of the world . These pictures and videos perpetuate a story
of mass killing and made worse the true nature of Xenophobic hatred.
- This gives a country
a bad reputation , there are still people on the net who write horrible
things and its not easy to control them even the social media has no
control over that. Another disadvantage is that there could be spread of
misinformation that could cause panic attacks to others.

Xenophobia is really wrong and people from South Africa need to understand the effect it brings to the country, they need to remember that there are also South African people living in foreign countries, would they appreciate is if they were to be treated this way? I very much doubt that. However we must acknowledge that it is not all South Africans who are Xenophobic in fact is it not even a quarter of he country.
ReplyDeletevery true we are all foreigners somewhere.
DeleteXenophobia as a whole is a campaign that has so much cruelty in it,as you have said on your post that the names that were given to South Africans were very discriminating, it shows that apartheid has become a way for people to fight for their rights but in a bad manner. As we see on your pictures that South Africans are fighting for what is theirs in terms of the land as some citizens don't want any outsiders.
ReplyDeletei feel like apartheid has a hand in us turning against our own kind
DeleteXenophobia can be shown in many different ways and it is totally wrong, why cant we live with people from other countries as our own brothers and sisters, aren't we all humans? We also have people living in other foreign countries, should they also be evicted? Lets accept other people in our country and live in harmony.
ReplyDeleteI always say that there is more to the word Africa i wish people could understand, maybe that way they will be able to love other black people.
Deletexenophobia manifests itself especially against civilization and cultures that are weak because they lack economic resources, means of subsistence or land. so i honestly agree with the statement that say no to xenophobia.
ReplyDeleteall lives should be valued the same, the classification of our place of birth is not important where humility is concerned. I love your insight and I hope a vast number of people get to agree to stop xenophobia.
ReplyDeleteMany people can be hypocrites, because everyone wants to be treated with respect, but some people can't pay other people with respect. I agree with you, stop xenophobia!!!
ReplyDeleteYes Xenophobia must stop.
DeleteXenophobia are also people because they have blood. There is no need for South African people to discriminate the Xenophobia since we are now a rainbow nation.People from the xenophobia they come to South Africa to seek for jobs not other way rounds .South Africans you should learn to respect others as you expect the same from them!
ReplyDeleteI am very glad that you also share the same sentiments as me , Xenophobia should really stop.
DeleteWe need to educate people that no matter where you come from, we are all people and need each other one way or another. Discrimination has to be put to an end and people need to unify and treat people from other countries as their fellow brothers and sisters and not enemies.
ReplyDeleteTrue we are all one it doesn't matter where you come from.
Deletexenophobia is overrated now we initiating and encouraging a united nation
ReplyDeletethe question is are we winning are people really presenting a united front?
DeleteIt really breaks my heart seeing children of mother Azania attacking each other, I came across this post and felt the need to read even more, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that i was able to make you feel that way , we are one it doesnt matter where you are coming from
Deletewell, this is a very serious topic indeed. I totally agree with you and personal I think that this country needs to learn how to work in collaboration, so to improve the economy. Immigrant people are so creative we need to learn thing or two from them not to chase them away.

ReplyDeleteIts funny how the Zulu tribes are the one who came up with "kwerekwere" yet it is said that they are also victims of being called izinzule😼😼
ReplyDeleteIt really pains me to think thats my tribe i feel like we still have a long way to go
DeleteXenophobia has clearly portrayed a bad image of South Africa and has tarnished the image of the rainbow nation. We need more people like you to eradicate this phenomenon
ReplyDeleteTrue we are all one , it doesn't matter that you come from DRC you are my sister we are one i wish people could understand that
DeleteWE ARE ALL AFRICANS KILLING EACH OTHER IS THE WORST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED.
ReplyDelete#NO_TO_XENOPHOBIA
Xenophobia is the worse case scenario that can happen to black people. Black people need to understand we only have each other and we need to live by unity and respect. That way, we will be able to acknowledge the power we have in our hands to change the world and stop all of this Xenophobia.
ReplyDeleteI am not South African but I love This country. It is sad for us to feel like we are intruders... however, I know that all South African don’t think like that.
ReplyDeleteIt is not human when it comes to killing one another despite your race, language and gender #no to xenophobia
ReplyDeleteAfrica should unite and fight against this issue.
